The library is pleased to present an exhibition, Repurposed-Reimagined, by local artist Susan Grissom.
Susan Grissom transforms discarded tea boxes and unique packaging into collages, inspired by the surprising shapes they reveal when taken apart. Layering gouache, acrylic, ink, and repurposed art and paper fragments, She blends found graphics with mherown marks to spotlight the beauty in overlooked materials. The works become assemblages.
The exhibit will also feature recent mixed media works on paper and muslin, started at the South Porch Art Residency in South Carolina, in 2023, some painted with sticks dipped in ink, from live oak trees.
Susan Grissom has been making art since childhood. After moving from the South to New York, she worked internationally as a special effects painter for the well-known British company, Smallbone of Devizes. Her long career in the arts spans enhancing interiors with her art nationwide. She later settled in this area and began her studies at Silvermine Arts Center and CCP in Norwalk, where she learned all aspects of painting, printmaking and intaglio and collage. She completed an internship at the historic Estate of Spannocchia in Siena, Italy, curated shows in Norwalk at the Maritime Center Garage Space, and served as Gallery Director for the Lionheart Gallery in Pound Ridge until 2017. She keeps an art studio in Norwalk at Firing Circuits Studios, located in the former Dresden Lace Factory. Today, creates mixed media collages that celebrate the hidden beauty in everyday materials and writes poetry and hybrid pieces.
The show will run from September 27 through November 15. An opening reception will be held on September 27 at 6:00pm to 8:00pm.
