The library is pleased to present Tanisha Mitchell, singer, librarian and curator, in one of her famous Opera Talks entitled Opera in American Pop Culture. Opera Talks is a series of opera discussions developed to be entertaining to patrons who love opera as well as those who have not developed an interest in this music form. In this presentation, Tanisha will explore opera in unexpected ways from Fatal Attraction to the Toyota.  In this opera talk she will discuss how opera is used in popular culture, specifically movies and commercials. Tanisha will discuss opera clips from featured movies including, The Shawshank Redemption, Carmen Jones, Fatal Attraction, and then the actual opera clip from an opera production.  Tanisha's presentation is not to be missed!

Tanisha Mitchell is the founder and CEO of Opera Talks (operatalks.com), an arts outreach company that brings a new spin on opera lectures by using technology, artifacts, and even her own singing to teach and inspire audiences. Her outreach continues to grow on the east coast from Long Island to Florida through libraries, community centers and beyond. Named a "Mover and Shaker" by Library Journal, Tanisha Mitchell is known for her innovative work in the arts in NYC, Long Island and beyond. Her curating and archival expertise in the Metropolitan Opera Music Library helped the institution discover unknown rare treasures that reflect its performance history. Tanisha is also the Arts coordinator at the Freeport Memorial Library where she brings an invigorating perspective on classical music and opera programming. In 2021, she launched a new arts media platform called Verismo Mag Media where new media platforms will develop to promote the arts to a local and national audience.
