Event Details

William Luce's "The Last Flapper."  A one woman show, starring Westchester actress Tina D'Amato and directed by Robert J. D'Amato.

Based on her letters and stories, this exciting play is the definitive portrait of Mrs. F. Scott Fitzgerald: the glamorous, fun loving and tragic Zelda. As in The Belle of Amherst, Lucifer's Child, and Bronte, Luce reveals the contradictions and mysteries of an extraordinary woman while fashioning a moving yet witty play. Set in an insane asylum on the last day of Zelda's life, the play unfolds as a hypnotic session. Zelda tells of her innocent rebellion as a southern belle, of her destructive marriage and of her mental disintegration.

"A cry of the heart that relentlessly delivers the truth." - The New York Times.  Don't miss it!

THE LAST FLAPPER was first presented at the Alley Theatre in September, 1987. It was directed by Charles Nelson Reilly and starred Piper Laurie.

Tina D'Amato is delighted to return to the library following last year's reading of Love Letters in which she shared the stage with her husband.  She has appeared in many leading roles showcasing her diverse talent including Josie Hogan (A Moon for the Misbegotten), Mrs. Kendall (The Elephant Man), Kate Mundy (Dancing at Lughnasa), Beatrice Carbone (A View from the Bridge), Charlotte Hay (Moon Over Buffalo), Sister Mary Lazarus (Sister Act), 92-year-old "A" (Three Tall Women), and three different characters including a gender-bending turn as a man (Sylvia).  The opportunity to bring so compelling a character as Zelda to life eclipses these others as it provides a voice for a remarkable woman finally out of the shadows of history and hopefully awakens brave inspiration for others.  Ms. D'Amato is an active member of Westchester Collaborative Theater in Ossining and offers heartfelt thanks to Kim Chandler from WCT, and to Marilyn Tinter and the wonderful staff here in Pound Ridge.  As always, love and thanks to Bobby for all the right reasons.  Correspondence welcomed:  DamatosAre@yahoo.com.
