The Library is pleased to invite you to a festive holiday event, Broadway, Through a Jazz Lens featuring acclaimed artists Janis Siegel and Pete Malinverni. Singer Janis Siegel and pianist Pete Malinverni, both veteran professionals of the New York music scene, will bring a program of Broadway favorites, with a Jazz tinge, to the PR Library. Siegel’s decades-long, multi-GRAMMY winning career as founder of Manhattan Transfer and Malinverni’s work in the great clubs and halls of NYC and the world over make for a formidable team whose work will leave you smiling - and maybe even singing along!
Over the past five decades, the voice of Janis Siegel, a ten-time Grammy winner and eighteen-time Grammy nominee, has been an undeniable force in The Manhattan Transfer’s diverse musical catalog. Alongside her career as a founding member of this musical institution, Siegel has also sustained a solo career that has spawned almost a dozen finely-crafted solo albums and numerous collaborative projects, amassed a large international fan base and garnered consistently high critical praise.
Pete Malinverni is a dynamic presence, on stage, in the studio or in the classroom. His work as a Jazz pianist, composer and educator, fueled by immense and cultivated talent, and animated by his naturally passionate disposition, has been heralded by many, including Karl Stark in the Philadelphia Enquirer, who said, "Pete Malinverni is one wild cat - his playing can be dark, gritty and oddly rapturous...he digs into the piano and emerges with exotic treasure." And Jim Macnie, in the Village Voice, called him, "audacious and exquisite”.
Festive holiday refreshments will be served following this stunning musical journey down Broadway Through a Jazz Lens.
