Love & Peace: The Museum of Messages.  Opening reception of an exhibition by photographer Helena  de Vengoechea Rudd.

Artist Statement: "These photographs are images of the expressive, sometimes humorous messages that people write in landscapes, mostly urban, about love, peace, the environment, and politics. I want to document these visual voices because the original, anonymous artists were attempting to share their thoughts and feelings with a wider audience. These messages in a public setting usually don't have a very long life span so my goal is to share them and give them another life. If you would like to exhibit, publish or purchase photos from this collection please contact Helena."

Bio: Helena was born in Caracas, Venezuela and lived there till she was 5 years old. Early in her childhood a camera was given to her which she constantly used to take pictures and create montages. In 1980 she moved with her family from South America to Connecticut. She grew up there and then she moved out west to study photography at the University of Colorado at Boulder. One summer she interned in NYC and fell in love with the vibrant, spontaneous imagery found throughout. She discovered messages of all different types written all over the urban landscape. She thought to herself, "these messages are sweet, funny, kind, to the point, and they aren't going to be here very much longer, so I am going to document them for others to enjoy." This was the start of The Museum of Messages.

Opening reception: March 28th at 3:00pm - 5:00pm.  The exhibition runs from March 28th through May 23rd.
